Weekend Recap: Reclaim + Greenway Gear Collective Earth Month Trail Clean-Up at Walnut Creek Greenway

On Sunday, April 19, our community came together for a meaningful Earth Month trail clean-up along the Walnut Creek Greenway, starting from the Greenway Gear Collective container at Lake Raleigh on NC State’s Centennial Campus.

What looked, at first glance, like a relatively clean stretch of trail told a different story once we got to work. Thirteen volunteers—including the founders of Reclaim and leaders and members of Greenway Gear Collective—spent the morning combing the area, collecting nearly 50 pounds of trash.

The majority of what we found? Single-use plastic bottles—the most common type of litter in outdoor spaces. It’s a powerful reminder that even when places appear clean, small, discarded items add up quickly and have a lasting impact on our environment.

We’re grateful to everyone who showed up, pitched in, and helped make a visible difference. Efforts like this not only improve the spaces we all enjoy, but also strengthen our shared commitment to protecting them.

As you head out on your next ride, walk, or paddle, consider bringing a reusable water bottle or beverage container—and, when possible, pack out more than you pack in.

Together, small actions can make a big difference.

This clean up was led by Reclaim Hydration. Proudly based in Raleigh, Reclaim is a mission-driven brand focused on simple, clean hydration that supports both personal health and environmental responsibility—using real ingredients and eliminating plastic to better fuel time outdoors.
