Special Bike Maintenance Class Recap + Orienteering Event This Weekend

This past weekend, we were lucky enough to have a special guest host the monthly Basic Bike Maintenance class that happens on the second Sunday of each month.
This is part of our regular programming, like the Orienteering & Navigation event THIS SATURDAY at Dix Park! 10 AM at the Dix Park gazebo on Umstead Drive across from the dog park. No orienteering experience required. We will provide maps, compasses, and some basic instruction for a navigation challenge all around Dix Park. Signup HERE.
This particular guest is a longtime Raleigh cycling community pillar, NCSU grad, Bandwidth data engineer, mountain bike racer, all-around legend... drum roll: Stephon Beaufort.
A few months ago, Stephon reached out and asked if he could host an "alternative" maintenance class. Not the type of maintenance you'd do in the comfort of your own home, but the type you'd do on the side of the road when you forgot your flat kit and all you have is a CO2 and a strong desire to get back home before dark.
From tying a knot in your tube when you forgot a spare, to how to pack your spare so it doesn't shred itself over hundreds of miles in a saddle bag (hint: ziploc), to why you should carry a chain tool on you, he provided true insight earned from many miles on the road, and many roadside sessions where ingenuity is the only way home.
Maybe we can convince him to teach more sessions in the future. If you'd like Stephon to teach your next maintenance class, please sound off in the comments! We hear he likes data, after all...
