GGC Adventure Series: Bike Navigation/Scavenger Hunt

The latest Greenway Gear Collective Adventure Series event was a huge success! As part of Bike Month in collaboration with Oaks & Spokes, participants gathered on May 16 at the GGC container by Lake Raleigh for a bike navigation scavenger hunt across NC State Centennial Campus and Dorothea Dix Park. Before heading out, Jeff and Debra Rezeli introduced basic navigation skills and explained how to use the custom orienteering-style maps — with no phones or GPS allowed.

The event drew 12 teams and 26 total participants, including lots of new faces who discovered us through Bike Month. Riders had two hours to search for clues spread across the area, and some teams covered more than 14 miles during the challenge. Clues included prompts such as “Tunnel wisdom: Don’t die _________” and “Total number of wolf sculptures around building,” making for a fun and challenging experience that tested both teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Four groups successfully found all the clues. First place went to Brian and Dianne Thomas, followed by solo rider Philip Taff in second place. Third place went to Vance, Sarah, and baby Ira, who were closely followed by Margaret Clement and Brian Walsh. The youngest participant award definitely went to baby Ira!

Participants described the event as tough but rewarding, and many were already asking when the next adventure would be. We were also excited to hear from several people interested in volunteering with Greenway Gear Collective.

A big thank you to Oaks & Spokes for their collaboration and support in making the event possible during Bike Month. Stay tuned for the next GGC Adventure Series event — we’re already planning more fun ways to explore, learn, and ride together!
