Weekly Roundup: November 17-23

Friday 11/21 — Raleigh Maison Book Fair + Book Drive

4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at The Bike Library Cafe

The Bike Library will be working with Raleigh Maison to host a Book Fair/ Book Drive benefiting local initiatives Read and Feed and Prison Books Collective.

Raleigh Maison is a local social club working to plan and host events focused on building community. All books brought to the drive will be donated, and all proceeds from sold books will be going to the respective sellers.

There is currently an open call for book vendors, so if you are interested in potentially selling some of your books, please reach out to: contact@raleighmaison.org.

Saturday 11/22 — Interactive Brainstorming Session

10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at The Bike Library Cafe

We’re exploring the possibility of adding a sidewalk mural outside The Bike Library, and we’d like input from the community. This session is open to everyone, no art background needed.

Facilitators Sabrina Hurtado and Tavyn Lovitt will give a brief overview of different mural concepts, including visual styles, themes, and potential takeaways for viewers. After that, attendees will take part in a simple small-group activity using sticky notes and prompts about bike community, feelings the mural should evoke, and what people want others to take away from it.

The group will then identify shared themes and vote on the top ideas to guide the next steps in the design process.

Session goals:

  1. Gather community vision for the mural
  2. Introduce and discuss possible design concepts
  3. Identify a main direction to develop moving forward

If you’re interested in helping shape the look and feel of this potential project, we’d be glad to have you there.

Saturday 11/22 — Adventure Series: Hike at Lake Raleigh

11:00 AM – Meet at The Bike Library Container

We’ll also be hosting a casual 3-mile hike at Lake Raleigh as part of our Adventure Series led by Debra & Jeff Rezelli. This is a beginner-friendly, social outing for anyone who wants some time outdoors. We’ll meet at the Bike Library Container on Lake Raleigh at NC States Centennial Campus at 11am before heading to the trail. Comfortable shoes and a water bottle are recommended, and the pace will be easy.

Sunday 11/23 — Oaks and Spokes Cranksgiving

1:00 PM at Crank Arm Brewing

It’s time for Cranksgiving — a food drive on bikes that supports local families during the holidays. You can ride solo or gather friends, family, or your whole bike crew. Bring whatever you normally use to carry groceries by bike: a backpack, basket, panniers, or even a cargo bike and ride to grocery stores to purchase non-perishables and deliver them by bike.

If you can’t ride this year but still want to help, or if you’d like to donate more food than you can carry, you can drop off non-perishable items at any of these locations now through November 23 during their regular hours: Munjo Munjo, The Bike Library Café, Pine State Coffee, and Oak City Cycling.

Cranksgiving is a simple and meaningful way to give back to our community!

Looking ahead into December: Holiday Party at th TBL Cafe

Friday December 12th 6:00 PM

Potluck: Bring a dish that feels special to you and the way you celebrate the holidays. A description of the dish and it's ingredients will be helpful for those with dietary restrictions. Sign Up Here

White Elephant: If you would like to participate (not mandatory) here is how it works:

Each participant brings one wrapped gift (between $10-$20 value) and places it in the gift pile. Everyone draws numbers to determine the order of play. The first person selects and unwraps a gift. The next player can either choose a new wrapped gift or “steal” an already opened one. If your gift gets stolen, you get to pick another from the pile. The game continues until everyone has a gift!
